Overall attendance was down a bit due to the economy, but it was barely noticeable from a participants perspective. EDW was full of energy and enthusiasm this year! The much anticipated DAMA-DMBOK was launched and is now available on Amazon.com. Homemade Jam was hopping on Monday and Tuesday nights. The "underground reporting" on Twitter provided minute by minute perspectives of attendees. The sessions were full of insights and information and it was great to catch up with old friends and meet new ones.
Here's what others said about EDW09: Francine Adams in the Examiner, "It was a meeting of the minds; the best minds in the world in data management at Enterprise Data World presented April 5-9, 2009 at the Tampa Convention Center in Tampa, Florida." Jim Harris commented on his OCDQ blog: "This year’s program was bigger than ever before, with more sessions, more case studies, and more can’t-miss content. "
On Sunday afternoon, Pat Cupoli gave a CDMP exam prep workshop to about 20 people, and several stayed to take exams after the workshop. During the conference, Pat, Francine Adams and I were busy proctoring exams. The Zachman Enterprise Architecture exam and the Business Process Management exams were offered as free beta exams and a total of 46 exams were given. In the exhibit hall, people were lined up at the DAMA-I booth for information about CDMP and the DAMA-DMBOK.
Eight people became Certified Data Management Professionals at the conference! We welcome them all to "club" CDMP! Each year, there seems to be more and more interest in certification. Whether it's the economy, or we're just starting to reach a "tipping" point of awareness -- there are more data professionals proudly displaying their CDMP credentials and increasing interest in certification from all over the world.
